Poetry

Akopọ

Route B keeps the anthology and drops one of the unseen sections. Paper 2B is a shorter paper, 1 hour 30 minutes for 60 marks, with poetry from People and Places in Section A and unseen poetry in Section B, and the unseen prose that Route A candidates sit is replaced by a coursework essay on a whole prose text. What does not change is this section: same anthology, same two questions, same 30 marks, same open book conditions and the same forty-five minutes to write in.

What does change is what the anthology is for. On Route B it is one of only two things on the paper, and it sits alongside a piece of extended independent writing, so the close reading you practise here is directly rehearsing the coursework. This lesson works on that footing: depth on a single poem, the sustained argument a 30 mark answer needs when you have chosen everything about it, and two anthology poems analysed in full because they are out of copyright and can be quoted freely.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. Students will study the OxfordAQA Exams Poetry Anthology People and Places. The 20 poems in this anthology are thematically linked in a variety of ways, allowing students to study a range of connected and linked ideas and themes from poets and poetry from different times and contexts.

The specification's requirement for Route B poetry is word for word the same as Route A's: students study the OxfordAQA Exams Poetry Anthology People and Places, and its twenty poems are thematically linked in a variety of ways, allowing a range of connected ideas and themes from poets and poetry of different times and contexts. The anthology is the same book and the questions are the same two questions, sitting at 01 and 02 on Paper 2B just as they do on Paper 2A.
