The Role Of Collaboration And Team-work In The Group Sustainability Action Project

Akopọ

Most qualifications treat working with other people as something that happens around the assessment. This one puts it inside. The group sustainability action project cannot be completed alone, your roles inside the group are marked, whether the group's approach to involvement was inclusive is marked, and your reflection on what teamwork taught you is worth more than any other single criterion in the component.

And yet the mark is individual, which produces the tension this lesson is really about. You are assessed on how well the group worked and on how clearly you can distinguish your own contribution from the group's. This lesson covers where the specification insists you collaborate and where it insists you work alone, how participatory roles should be allocated against strengths and growth goals, how barriers to inclusion are managed rather than avoided, how a group makes and records a decision, and what peer review actually is. You will allocate roles for a group of five, handle a dominant member and a silent one, and run a peer review that produces evidence instead of politeness.

  1. The role of collaboration and team-work in the group sustainability action project.
  2. Collaboration is expected when students find a focus for their project, select and collect secondary and primary data, develop a plan to deliver the sustainability action, carry out their sustainability action, generate feedback on their sustainability action, and participate in peer review once the sustainability action is complete.
  3. Independence is compulsory when students recall their knowledge of sustainability and action research, identify and justify their personal growth goals, assess their own experience of data collection including wellbeing and ethical issues, determine ways of optimising their own contribution, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their sustainability action, and create a personal learning portfolio.

Five students spend a term measuring air quality outside their school and end it with an assembly and a set of letters to transport operators. They shared everything: the survey design, the standing at the roadside, the nerves before the assembly. At the end, each writes a separate report of at most 2,000 words and a separate personal learning portfolio, and each receives a different mark out of 48.
