Farm Machinery

Akopọ

A pair of oxen or a tractor turning the soil can do in a day what would take a worker with a hoe many weeks. Farm machinery, from the implements pulled by draught animals to powerful tractor-drawn equipment, transforms how much land a farmer can prepare, plant and harvest. But machines are expensive, need fuel and skill, and do not suit every farm, so a good farmer weighs their benefits against their costs.

In this lesson you will learn the advantages and disadvantages of mechanising a farm, and then the use and maintenance of the main implements: the mould-board plough that turns the soil, the cultivator and harrow that break and level it, the planter that sows the seed and the ridger that builds up ridges. Whether drawn by ox, donkey or tractor, each does a particular job in preparing land and growing a crop.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. (a) explain the advantages and disadvantages of farm mechanisation.
  2. (b) describe the use and maintenance of mould-board plough, cultivator, harrow, planter and ridger (either ox- or donkey- or tractor-drawn). knowledge and skills to explore the challenges plays a key role in every student’s education.’.

Akọ̀wé Ẹ̀kọ́

Mechanisation questions in 0600 ask you to weigh advantages against disadvantages and to know what each implement does. The examiner rewards balanced judgement, not a one-sided list, and answers that link an implement to its stage in preparing the land. Understanding the chain from ploughing to planting also ties this topic back to soil, seedbeds and crop establishment elsewhere in the syllabus.
