A rate compares two different quantities, telling you how much of one thing there is for each unit of another. Speed in kilometres per hour, a wage in dollars per hour, a phone plan in cents per minute: all of these are rates, and they are everywhere in daily life and in the exam.
In this lesson you will learn what a rate is, how to read and use common rates, and how to handle the most important one of all in this syllabus: average speed. By keeping a clear eye on units, you will be able to switch between distance, speed and time with confidence and solve real journey problems.
