Interactive Design, Including Web, App And Game

Akopọ

A poster is finished when it is printed. An interface is never finished in that sense, because it has to answer back. Somebody taps it, and it has to respond; somebody taps the wrong thing, and it has to help; somebody's connection drops halfway through, and it still has to make sense. Designing for a screen the user acts on means designing every one of those situations, not just the one where everything goes right.

This note covers user flows and information architecture, the states an element moves through, feedback and timing, touch targets and thumb reach, accessibility that is not optional, prototyping and testing with real people, and the way a good game teaches its own rules without a word of instruction. It is the most systematic area of study in this endorsement, and the one where testing beats taste most decisively.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. Use interactive technology such as web-based, mobile and other personal devices, television and games to communicate with and engage audiences
  2. Use a range of interactive design materials, tools and techniques such as two- and three-dimensional graphics, digital applications and time-based media

Akọ̀wé Ẹ̀kọ́

Interactive design covers websites, apps, kiosks, television interfaces, wearables and games: anything where the user acts and the design responds. Three things separate it from every other area of study in this endorsement. It has state, so the same screen looks different depending on what has happened. It exists in time, so timing, transition and delay are materials you design with. And it has a user with an intention, who came to do something specific and will judge your work entirely on whether they managed it.
