Narrative And Descriptive Writing

Akopọ

Section B gives you three prompts and forty five minutes to write something worth thirty marks, half the paper. Some prompts want a story. Some want a place, a person or a moment held still and made vivid. They are not the same task, and the commonest way to lose marks here is to accept a descriptive prompt and then quietly turn it into a plot because a plot feels safer.

This note separates the two modes and teaches what each one actually demands. A narrative needs shape and change: somebody must be different at the end. A description needs organisation without plot: it has to move the reader through something rather than along a timeline. Choose the right mode for the prompt, build it correctly, and eighteen AO4 marks come within reach.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. Explore and develop imaginative writing skills to engage the reader
  2. Use what has been learned about the writer's craft in reading of fiction to inspire and influence own imaginative writing
  3. Develop a range of creative writing techniques, planning and proofreading skills

Akọ̀wé Ẹ̀kọ́

Section B of Component 2 sets one imaginative writing task chosen from three prompts, worth thirty marks, with forty five minutes advised. Eighteen of those marks are AO4, which rewards communicating effectively and imaginatively while adapting form, tone and register to purpose and audience. Twelve are AO5, which rewards clear, varied and accurate writing. The split tells you that craft outweighs correctness, although twelve marks is far too many to donate through carelessness.
