Managing The Impacts Of Tectonic Hazards

We cannot stop the plates moving, but we can decide how badly a tectonic event hurts us. The difference between a tragedy and a near miss often lies in the days before and after: did people get a warning, were the buildings strong, was there a plan, and how fast did help arrive? Good management has saved tens of thousands of lives, sometimes from the very same volcano that once seemed unstoppable.
