Section A

Akopọ

Paper 2 hands you a booklet of five or six separate sources on a single modern issue and asks five questions about them in an hour. It is a different reading task from Paper 1 and it rewards a different habit. On Paper 1 you go deep into one passage. Here you move across a set of texts that disagree with each other, that were written for different readers, and that include at least one which is barely text at all.

This lesson maps the paper. Across the three Paper 2 papers measured for it, the structure did not vary once: question 1 on Source A, question 2 on Source B, question 3 on Source C, question 4 on Sources D and E together, and question 5 on Source F. Knowing that before you open the insert changes how you read it. You will also learn how to compare two sources without simply describing each one in turn, which is the single biggest source of lost marks on this paper.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. The reading texts for Paper 2 will relate to modern world themes and issues. Some of the texts may be brief or solely visual. Texts may be fiction or non-fiction.

Akọ̀wé Ẹ̀kọ́

Paper 2 is Source-based reading and directed writing, a 2 hour paper worth 80 marks. Section A is the reading half, worth 40 marks, and the paper's own advice line tells you to spend about an hour on it. The sources arrive in a separate insert, so you can have a source open beside your answer book without turning pages back and forth.
