Theme Two: Local, National And International Areas Of Interest

Akopọ

Theme two runs outwards from the room you are sitting in to the other side of the world: home, town, neighbourhood and region; then social issues; then travel and tourism. Three topics, and only one of them carries sub-topics, which tells you something important about how tightly each is defined and therefore how each should be revised.

It is also the theme that supplies most of the descriptive and narrative material you will meet on the reading and listening sections, because places, journeys and communities are what travel writing and radio interviews are made of. This lesson takes the three topics in turn, builds the language each one needs, and then teaches the technique that unlocks more reading marks than any other: how to explain a figurative phrase in your own words, and how the mark tariff tells you how many ideas the explanation must contain.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. Theme two covers the following three topics with related sub-topics shown as bullet points, where applicable: Topic 1: Home, town, neighbourhood and region Topic 2: Social issues
  2. Charity/voluntary work
  3. Healthy/unhealthy living Topic 3: Travel and tourism

Akọ̀wé Ẹ̀kọ́

Theme two covers the following three topics, with related sub-topics shown as bullet points where applicable. The words where applicable are doing real work: only one of the three topics has bullets under it, and that difference tells you how tightly each one is defined.
