Presentations

Akopọ

A presentation succeeds or fails on consistency and restraint. The best slide decks look like one design carried cleanly across every slide, guide the eye without distraction, and leave the spotlight on the message rather than the special effects. The tools that make this possible, the master slide, transitions, animations and presenter notes, are simple to apply but easy to overuse, and learning to use them well is exactly what this topic is about.

In this lesson you will learn to build a presentation, including from a plain text file, and to set a house style once on the master slide so every slide inherits it. You will insert and edit objects such as images, video, charts, tables, audio, shapes and action buttons, add presenter notes and alternative text, and apply transitions and animations consistently. Finally you will choose the right output for the audience, from a looped on-screen carousel to a presenter-controlled show with printed handouts.

Akọ̀wé Ẹ̀kọ́

Almost everyone will give a presentation at some point: a project, a pitch, a report. The difference between one that helps the audience and one that loses them is rarely the content alone; it is consistency, readability and judgement about effects. In a Cambridge practical paper you are marked on applying a house style through the master slide, inserting and editing objects accurately, and using transitions, animations and output options that suit the purpose. The same judgement makes any real presentation clearer.
