Create A Data Model

Akopọ

A spreadsheet is a sheet of cells, arranged in rows and columns, that can store data and calculate with it. Behind every neat results table in a finance report or a school mark book sits a carefully built data model: the labels that name things, the values that hold the raw numbers, and the formulae that turn those numbers into answers automatically. Build the model well and the spreadsheet recalculates the moment you change a single figure, with no rubbing out and no arithmetic by hand.

In this lesson you will learn how to create and edit a model, how to tell a formula apart from a function, the order in which calculations are worked out, and the single most examined idea in the whole topic: the difference between relative and absolute cell referencing using the dollar sign. Master these and replicating a formula across hundreds of cells becomes a two-second job that always gives the right answer.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. Create and edit a spreadsheet model.
  2. Insert cell(s), row(s) and column(s), delete cell(s), row(s) and column(s), merge cells Create formulae using cell references Replicate formulae using absolute and relative cell references where appropriate Use arithmetic operators in formulae including add, subtract, multiply, divide, indices Use named cells and named ranges Use functions including sum, average, maximum, minimum, integer, rounding, counting, LOOKUP, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, IF Use external data sources within functions Use nested functions.
  3. Formulae and functions.
  4. The difference between a formula and a function.
  5. Order of operations.
  6. The order in which mathematical operations are performed including the use brackets to make sure that formulae work.
  7. Cell referencing.
  8. Characteristics and use of absolute and relative cell referencing.

Akọ̀wé Ẹ̀kọ́

You could work out a times table or a payroll on paper, but the moment a number changes you would have to start again. A spreadsheet data model does the recalculation for you. The skill examined at IGCSE is not clicking buttons; it is designing a model so that one input cell drives many results, and writing formulae that still point at the right cells after you copy them down a whole column. Get the referencing right and a model built in minutes will keep giving correct answers for years.
