Multiple Choice On An Extended Talk

Akopọ

Now the recording gets longer: a single interview or talk that runs for a few minutes, with a set of multiple-choice questions to answer as you go. The questions follow the order of the talk, so they are a path through it, but the wrong options are written to sound exactly like things the speaker says. The challenge is to hold the thread of a long recording and, at each question, choose the option that matches what the speaker really means, not the one that merely repeats their words.

This note shows you how to read the questions and options before the recording starts, how to keep your place across a long talk so you are ready when each answer arrives, and how to test the three options against the speaker's actual meaning. You will see exactly why the word-matching option is so often wrong, and you will lock in the simple rule that protects every mark: tick one box, clearly, for each question.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. Follow an extended interview or talk and answer multiple-choice questions.
  2. Choose the option that matches the speaker's meaning, not just shared words.
  3. Hold the thread of an argument across a longer recording.

Akọ̀wé Ẹ̀kọ́

Exercise 4 of the Listening paper gives you one extended recording, often an interview, with several multiple-choice questions. For each question you choose A, B or C. The questions come in the order the information appears in the talk, so they act as a map: while you are answering question three, you know question four is still ahead. The recording is played twice, so the first play is for understanding and the second is for confirming.
