Component 3 Speaking: A Full Guide

Component 3 is the Speaking test, and it is the one part of the course that is a real conversation. In roughly ten to fifteen minutes you chat with an examiner: first a relaxed warm-up to settle your nerves, then a discussion built around a topic card the examiner chooses for you. Only the discussion is assessed, and it is worth forty marks. There is no passage to read and no gaps to fill; the test rewards how well you take part, develop your ideas and keep the talk going.
This guide explains how the test is run, part by part, what each part is for, and exactly what the examiner is marking: the way you structure your talk, the vocabulary you reach for, your accuracy, and how fully you develop and sustain a two-way conversation. You will see what turns a thin, one-word answer into a developed one, and why a prepared monologue actually scores worse than a genuine exchange.
