Personal Portfolio

Akopọ

Graphic Communication is the only endorsement where somebody else is always in the room. A fine artist answers to an idea; you answer to a message, an audience and a format. Your Personal Portfolio has to prove that you can take a brief, interrogate it, generate far more solutions than you need, and then defend the one you chose on grounds an examiner can see.

That is a different kind of evidence from a folder of nice images. It is thumbnails by the dozen, type set at real size and rejected, a grid drawn out before the layout is filled, a net folded up in paper before anything is printed, and artwork prepared properly for the output it was designed for. This note shows what the four assessment objectives look like on a graphics sheet, and why the most common failure in this endorsement is arriving at a logo in week two and defending it for the rest of the term.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. Create a personal portfolio of work demonstrating knowledge, understanding and skills for Graphic Communication
  2. Develop and explore ideas in response to centre-devised themes, projects or tasks
  3. Research primary and contextual sources
  4. Experiment with media, materials, techniques and processes
  5. Present personal responses to themes set by the centre
  6. Submit three sheets of supporting studies (maximum A2) and one sheet of final outcome(s) (maximum A2)

Akọ̀wé Ẹ̀kọ́

Component 1, the Personal Portfolio, is worth 50 per cent of your Graphic Communication International GCSE and carries 72 marks. Your centre devises the theme, project or brief, and the work is then marked externally by Pearson against a single assessment grid used for every endorsed title. Component 2, the Externally-set Assignment, carries another 72 marks, and you must stay in Graphic Communication for it.
