Personal Portfolio

Textile Design is the endorsement that thinks with its hands. An idea here is not finished when it has been drawn; it is finished when it has been wrapped, dyed, stitched, cut and handled, and when you know what the cloth does when you pick it up. Your Personal Portfolio has to make that testing visible, which means samples: real ones, in quantity, with the failures kept.

It is also an endorsement with real technical content that students often skip. Dye chemistry decides whether your colour survives a rinse. Fibre type decides whether the dye takes at all. Heat decides whether a synthetic pleats permanently or melts. This note covers what the four assessment objectives look like in yarn wraps, dye baths and stitch samples, and how to get a bulky, fragile textile outcome onto four sheets of A2.

Component 1, the Personal Portfolio, is 50 per cent of your Textile Design International GCSE and carries 72 marks. Your centre devises the theme, project or task, and the work is marked externally by Pearson against a single assessment grid shared by all five endorsements. Component 2, the Externally-set Assignment, carries the other 72 marks, and you must stay in Textile Design for it.
