Apply Skills Of Collaboration, Negotiation And Influence As They Deliver The Activity

Akopọ

A finished plan is still a document, not an action. Delivering it means persuading people who do not have to help you that they should, agreeing terms with people whose priorities are not the same as yours, and keeping a group of volunteers pointed at the same goal over several weeks. None of that happens automatically, and none of it is covered by having done good research.

This lesson picks up the school recycling scheme first introduced earlier in this strand and takes it from plan to delivery, focusing on the three skills the specification names directly: collaboration, negotiation and influence, and on the difference between organising a campaign that argues a case and running a social action project that delivers a practical benefit.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. Organise and deliver an event, meeting or campaign to advocate for the selected issue, problem, cause or social need that aims to argue the case, raising awareness and commitment by informing, influencing and persuading the target audience
  2. Organise a social action project or social enterprise or undertake another form of community action that aims to raise awareness and commitment and create a social benefit to benefit others
  3. Deliver a social community action project

The recycling scheme project, chosen earlier in this strand because low recycling rates in classroom and canteen bins connected clearly to the Economic Development and the Environment theme, now has a plan: introduce clearly labelled recycling bins in every classroom and the canteen, alongside a short awareness campaign explaining what can and cannot be recycled. Turning that plan into a delivered activity requires working with several people who each control a piece of what needs to happen: the site team who manage waste collection, the school's senior leadership who must approve any change to bins and signage, and a local recycling company who may be willing to donate bin liners or collect recyclables separately.
