Stellar Evolution

Stars are not eternal. Every star is born in a cloud of gas, burns for millions or billions of years, and eventually runs out of fuel. What happens next depends on a single factor: how massive the star was at birth. Some fade quietly into tiny white dwarfs; others explode as supernovae and leave behind neutron stars or black holes.

In this lesson you will trace the full life cycle of both low-mass and high-mass stars, learn how colour reveals surface temperature, and see how the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram organises every star we can observe.
