English Language Specification A - 4EA1 PearsonEdexcel

Preparing And Delivering Presentations

Akopọ

The Spoken Language Endorsement is optional, carries no marks, and does not affect your English Language grade in any way. It is reported separately on your certificate as Pass, Merit or Distinction. That combination confuses students into treating it as unimportant, which is a mistake: it is the only part of the qualification that certifies something an employer or an admissions tutor can see you doing.

This note covers the individual presentation route: a prepared speech or talk of no more than ten minutes, delivered to a real audience, followed by questions. You will learn how to choose and narrow a subject, how to structure something to be heard rather than read, what the grade criteria actually reward, and how to handle the questions afterwards, which is where Merit and Distinction are most often separated.

Awọn Afojusun

  1. Listen to and understand spoken language, and use spoken Standard English effectively
  2. Prepare and deliver a speech or talk followed by questions from the audience
  3. Demonstrate presentation skills including clarity, fluency, and engagement with the audience

Akọ̀wé Ẹ̀kọ́

The specification is precise about this and it is worth being clear before you prepare anything. The preparation and assessment of spoken language is an optional component. There are no marks. If you attempt it, you are awarded Not Classified, Pass, Merit or Distinction against published criteria, and that grade appears on your certificate alongside your overall English Language grade rather than contributing to it. The assessment objective involved, AO6, sits outside the percentage weightings of the written components entirely.
