Every meal on your plate began on a farm, and every farm works in the same hidden way: it takes things in, does work on them, and sends products out. A rice grower flooding a paddy in Bangladesh and a giant wheat estate on the Canadian prairie look nothing alike, yet both can be read as the same machine of inputs, processes and outputs.
In this lesson you will learn the language geographers use to classify farms (arable, pastoral, mixed, subsistence, commercial) and the newer soil-free methods (hydroponics, aquaponics, aeroponics), then learn to describe any farm as a system. Get this right and the rest of the food theme falls into place.
