Global Perspectives - 0457 CIE

Perspectives: Personal, Local/national And Global

Muhtasari

Ask three people about the same global issue and you will often hear three different answers, not because anyone is lying, but because each is standing in a different place. Global Perspectives is built on this idea. It asks you to look at every issue through three lenses at once: the personal view of an individual, the local or national view of a community or country, and the global view of the whole world. Learning to switch between these lenses is the heart of the course.

This lesson teaches you to define and tell apart the three perspectives, to enter each one with genuine empathy rather than dismissing it, to see how they connect and where they pull against one another, and finally to justify a personal perspective of your own with evidence and reasoning. These are the skills that make Paper 1 answers and the Individual Report feel balanced, fair and convincing.

Malengo

  1. Distinguish personal, local/national and global perspectives on an issue.
  2. Consider different perspectives objectively and with empathy.
  3. Explain the links and tensions between perspectives.
  4. Justify a personal perspective using evidence and reasoning.

Maelezo ya Somo

A perspective is more than an opinion. It is the whole viewpoint a person reasons from, shaped by who they are, where they live and what matters to them. The reason Global Perspectives puts perspectives at its centre is simple: real global issues affect different people in genuinely different ways, and any answer that sees only one of those ways is incomplete. Considering multiple perspectives is rewarded directly in Paper 1 and is essential to the Individual Report, where you research several viewpoints before reasoning to your own conclusion.
