Ideal Gas Molecules

Gas behaviour underpins everything from weather systems to car engines. The kinetic model explains how randomly moving molecules create pressure and why heating a sealed container raises that pressure.

In this lesson you will learn how gas molecules move and exert pressure, the kelvin temperature scale, absolute zero, how temperature affects molecular speed and kinetic energy, and the quantitative relationships between pressure, volume and temperature.

Picture a box full of tiny balls bouncing off the walls at high speed in random directions. That is essentially what a gas is. The collisions of these molecules with the container walls create pressure, and the faster the molecules move, the greater the pressure.
