In Korea it held the line, in Cuba it faced down nuclear missiles ninety miles from Florida, and in Vietnam it suffered its most painful defeat. The record is mixed, and that is exactly what makes it such a rich topic.
This lesson examines containment in action through three case studies: the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the long war in Vietnam. You will learn what the United States did, why it did it, and how to judge each case as a success or a failure, before reaching the balanced verdict on the whole policy that Cambridge examiners are looking for.
