Yet in some countries today the population is actually shrinking. What drives a nation's numbers up or down, and can governments steer them?
This lesson teaches the engine of population change: birth rate, death rate, natural increase and migration. You will master the Demographic Transition Model, the single most important diagram in population geography, and weigh real policies that tried to raise or lower birth rates in France and China.
