Art and Design: Three-Dimensional Design - 4TD1 PearsonEdexcel

Personal Portfolio

Muhtasari

Three-dimensional Design is the endorsement where gravity has an opinion. A drawing can be any shape you like; a chair has to hold a person, a vessel has to survive a kiln, a pavilion has to stand up in wind. Your Personal Portfolio has to prove you can move an idea through card, foam, clay, timber or wire until it works as an object, and that you understood what each material was telling you along the way.

It is also the endorsement with the hardest submission problem. Your work is solid and the examiner receives paper. Four A2 sheets have to carry maquettes, material tests, working drawings and a finished piece that may weigh several kilograms, which means photography stops being documentation and becomes part of the design work. This note covers both halves: developing in three dimensions, and presenting three dimensions in two.

Malengo

  1. Create a personal portfolio of work demonstrating knowledge, understanding and skills for Three-dimensional Design
  2. Develop and explore ideas in response to centre-devised themes, projects or tasks
  3. Research primary and contextual sources
  4. Experiment with media, materials, techniques and processes
  5. Present personal responses to themes set by the centre
  6. Submit three sheets of supporting studies (maximum A2) and one sheet of final outcome(s) (maximum A2)

Maelezo ya Somo

Component 1, the Personal Portfolio, is 50 per cent of your Three-dimensional Design International GCSE and carries 72 marks. Your centre devises the theme, project or task, and the work is marked externally by Pearson against one assessment grid shared by all five endorsements. Component 2, the Externally-set Assignment, carries the other 72 marks, and you must stay in Three-dimensional Design for it.
