Identifying A Citizenship Community Action Project

Muhtasari

Every community action project starts in the same messy place: a long list of things that could be worth doing, and no clear way to choose between them. Recycling, road safety, food poverty, library hours, clean water, digital access. All of it feels important, and none of it can be your project until you narrow it down to one issue you can actually research and act on.

This lesson gives you a method for doing exactly that: how to spot a genuine citizenship issue, how to test whether it is a strong choice for a project rather than just a good topic for conversation, and how existing organisations, from a local food bank to Amnesty International, show you the different shapes a citizenship action can take.

Malengo

  1. Identify an issue, problem or cause of social need that relates to citizenship concepts and themes studied as part of the course
  2. Understand the range of methods and approaches relevant to citizenship actions that can be used by governments, organisations, groups and individuals to address citizenship themes in society
  3. Understand methods for carrying out citizenship action: individual, collective, mass and social movements, social action and consumer action
  4. Understand case studies: campaigning organisations (e.g. Red Cross, Amnesty International), educational projects

Maelezo ya Somo

The Edexcel specification defines citizenship community action as a planned course of informed action that addresses a citizenship issue or question of concern, aimed at delivering a benefit or change for a particular community or wider society. Two words in that definition matter more than the rest: planned and informed. A collection is not a citizenship action just because it happens; it becomes one when you can explain why the issue matters, what you found out about it, and what change you were trying to bring about.
