A reader should never feel lost. When this works, the writing feels effortless to read. When it does not, even strong ideas feel jumbled, and the marks for organisation slip away.
This lesson teaches you to control the shape of a whole piece, not just a sentence. You will learn when to start a new paragraph, how a topic sentence steers a paragraph, and how cohesion, the invisible glue of discourse markers and careful reference, keeps a reader moving smoothly from one idea to the next. You will study a reordered paragraph, an annotated exemplar and a reference table of linking words you can use straight away.
