The Impact Of Globalisation And The Role Of Transnational Corporations

Muhtasari

The trainers on your feet may have been designed in the United States, stitched in Vietnam, made from rubber tapped in Malaysia and sold to you through a website hosted on a server in Ireland. That single product is globalisation in miniature: the world wired together so tightly that goods, money, people and ideas cross borders as never before. At the centre of this web sit the transnational corporations, firms so large that a few of them out-earn entire countries.

In this lesson you will learn what globalisation means and what drives it, how a transnational corporation organises production across many countries, and how to weigh the real benefits and genuine costs that a TNC such as Nike brings to the places where it locates, using a named country as your worked example.

Malengo

  1. What is meant by globalisation.
  2. The key features of globalisation.
  3. The impacts of globalisation on trade, transport, culture, communications, and technology.
  4. The role and global organisation of transnational corporations (TNCs).
  5. An evaluation of the impacts of TNCs on the countries in which they are located.
  6. One detailed specific example of a named country or area, to include: • the impacts of globalisation • the impacts of a named TNC which is located in the country or area.

Maelezo ya Somo

Globalisation shapes almost everything in modern geography: the clothes we wear, the jobs that appear and vanish in our towns, the spread of fast food and pop culture, even the air we breathe. Examiners want a clear definition, the key features and drivers, a sound grasp of how transnational corporations operate, and above all a balanced evaluation, backed by a named example, of who gains and who loses. This is a high-mark, essay-heavy topic where structure and evidence win the marks.
