Threats To The Antarctic Ecosystem And How They Can Be Managed
Muhtasari
For most of human history Antarctica was too remote and too hostile to be touched. Today it is reached by fishing fleets, oil and mineral prospectors, scientists and more than a hundred thousand tourists a year, and it sits on the front line of climate change. The very things that make Antarctica precious also make it fragile.
This lesson examines the main threats to the Antarctic ecosystem, the impacts if it were destroyed, and how the world has tried to protect it through international agreements such as the Antarctic Treaty and the Madrid Protocol. You will learn to evaluate these strategies, judging not just what they do but how well they actually work.
Malengo
- The threats posed to Antarctica, for example, resource exploitation, climate change, fishing, tourism.
- The impacts of the destruction of the Antarctic ecosystem.
- An evaluation of the strategies and techniques used to manage the Antarctic ecosystem; including sustainable. For example, international agreements and environmental impact surveys. For the Antarctic ecosystem, a detailed specific example is not listed, this is because the topic content is only based upon Antarctica.
