However, the elder brother did exhibit obedience, as he had faithfully served his father and had not disobeyed him like his younger brother. Nevertheless, his obedience was tainted by his self-righteousness, pride, and selfishness, which made him unwilling to join in the celebration and welcome his younger brother back home.
