Punctuation is not decoration; it is meaning. A single misplaced comma can change who did what, and a missing full stop can blur two ideas into one confusing run. At its best, punctuation does more than keep writing correct: a well-placed dash, colon or short emphatic sentence can control pace and land a point with real force. Accurate punctuation protects your marks; skilful punctuation earns them.
This lesson works through the full range of punctuation, from the everyday full stop and comma to the colon, semicolon, dash, brackets and apostrophe, always pairing a correct version against an incorrect one so the rule is clear. It gives full attention to the comma splice, the error examiners flag most often, and shows how punctuation can be used for deliberate effect, not just correctness. You will finish with a reference table you can keep using.
