Component 1 Reading And Writing: A Full Guide

Component 1 is the Reading and Writing paper, and it carries the most marks of the three components. In two hours you move through six exercises that climb from finding a single fact to writing a full article in a controlled register. Nothing in it can be revised the night before, because the texts change every session. What never changes is the shape of the paper and exactly what each exercise rewards, and that is the part you can prepare completely.
This guide walks the paper exercise by exercise. You will see the exact marks, the command words decoded, model answers and plans of our own, and the difference between the Core and Extended tiers. There is a timing plan that protects the two long writing tasks, where the biggest blocks of marks live. Learn the architecture now and you walk in knowing what to do with whatever texts appear.
