Social Identity And Inclusion

Who am I, which groups do I belong to, and does my society make room for people like me? Social identity and inclusion is about how people see themselves and each other, through gender, age, ethnicity, religion, language, ability and more, and about whether everyone can take a full part in community life. The stakes are large: the World Health Organization estimated in 2024 that about 1.3 billion people, around one in six worldwide, live with a significant disability, and the World Economic Forum's 2024 report found a global gender gap that, on current trends, would take generations to close.
This note does not tell you what to think about any group. Global Perspectives never does. It teaches you to see inclusion through an individual's, a country's and the world's eyes, to weigh genuine arguments about diversity and fairness against their counter-arguments, to judge sources on a sensitive topic where bias is common, and to reason toward realistic action. Handled with care and balance, this is ideal ground for your report, team project and Paper 1.

- Explain why social identity and inclusion is an issue of global significance and describe its main causes and consequences.
- Compare personal, local/national and global perspectives on social identity and inclusion, with empathy and supporting evidence.
- Evaluate evidence, sources and arguments relating to social identity and inclusion, distinguishing fact, opinion, bias and vested interest.
- Develop a line of reasoning toward possible evidence-based courses of action on social identity and inclusion, and suggest report and team-project angles.
