Component 2 Listening: A Full Guide

Component 2 is the Listening paper. In about fifty minutes you hear a series of recordings, ranging from short snippets to an extended talk, and answer forty marks' worth of questions on what you hear. The good news is built into the exam: every recording is played twice, so you get a second chance at each one. The skill is to use the first playing to catch the gist and the second to lock down the exact detail, all while reading the questions ahead so you know what to listen for.
This guide walks the five exercises in order, with the marks each carries, the type of answer each wants, and how to use the reading time, the two playings and the transfer time at the end. You will see how a clearly spelled answer earns the mark and an unclear one loses it, and how to keep your place when the recording moves on. Learn the rhythm of the paper and you stop missing answers you actually heard.
