Hypertext Markup Language (html)
Overzicht
Everything you have ever read in a browser arrived as plain text with labels wrapped round it. This bit is a heading. This bit is a paragraph. This bit is a link, and here is where it goes. The browser reads those labels and decides what to draw. That is the whole of HTML, and it is why a page written thirty years ago still opens today: the labels say what things are, not what they should look like on any particular screen.
This lesson teaches you to write that structure using the tags the specification names, and then to control the appearance with CSS style rules built from a selector, a property and a value. You will read a printed page of HTML and say exactly what a browser would display, find the errors in a broken style rule, and learn what distinguishes HTML5 from the versions that came before it. All three of those are things the specimen paper asks for by name.
