Overzicht
Cells are not sealed boxes. They constantly exchange substances with their surroundings, taking in what they need and removing what they do not. Three transport mechanisms make this possible: diffusion, osmosis and active transport.
In this lesson you will learn how each process works, what factors speed them up or slow them down, and how to investigate diffusion and osmosis in the lab. These concepts underpin gas exchange, nutrient absorption and water balance across the whole course.

- Understand how factors affect the rate of movement of substances into and out of cells, including the effects of surface area to volume ratio, distance, temperature and concentration gradient
