Overzicht
Paper and card are the everyday workhorses of graphic products. A cereal box, a paperback cover, a greetings card, a pizza takeaway box, a magazine and a luxury perfume carton are all built from sheet cellulose, yet each uses a different weight, finish and structure chosen for the job. The graphic designer who knows the difference between 80gsm copier paper, 300gsm folding boxboard and double-wall corrugated board can specify a product that prints crisply, folds without cracking, protects its contents and recycles cleanly.
This note covers the graphic-products objectives for paper and card: how papers, cards, boards and corrugated boards are classified by weight in grams per square metre (gsm); the stock forms they are sold in; the properties that matter for printing, folding and protection; their environmental impact through recycling and sustainable forestry; and the typical uses that decide which grade you reach for. Every decision is worked through with concrete jobs so you can specify confidently in the exam and the workshop.
