The Growth Of Regionalisation
Overzicht
A small country trading alone can struggle to negotiate on equal terms with a global economic giant. Group several neighbouring countries together, however, and the combined market becomes large enough to negotiate as an equal, coordinate policy, and sometimes even move goods, workers or money across borders almost as freely as within one country. This is the logic behind regionalisation, and it has reshaped world trade over the past few decades.
In this lesson you will examine why regional multi-governmental organisations have grown, weigh their real economic consequences for both members and non-members, and look at the political backlash that regional integration has also produced, including genuine arguments for and against handing more power to a regional body.
