Gases In The Atmosphere
Overzicht
The air you breathe is a mixture of gases with a remarkably stable composition. Nitrogen makes up about four-fifths of the atmosphere, oxygen about one-fifth, and the remaining fraction includes carbon dioxide, water vapour, and noble gases. Despite carbon dioxide being present in tiny amounts, its role in climate change makes it one of the most discussed molecules on the planet.
In this lesson you will learn the composition of dry air, explore experiments that measure the percentage of oxygen, study the combustion of elements in oxygen, examine how carbon dioxide forms from the thermal decomposition of metal carbonates, and understand why rising carbon dioxide levels contribute to climate change.
