This is because the cost of transporting the heavy inputs to the processing site would be too high. By locating near the source of raw materials, the industry can reduce transportation costs and increase efficiency. For example, a timber industry that processes logs into planks would locate near the forest source of the logs to minimize transportation costs. Similarly, a mining industry that processes ore into metal would locate near the mine source of the ore.
