The Individual Report (Component 2)

Gbogbo ọrọ náà

The Individual Report is the part of Global Perspectives where you become the researcher. You pick a global issue that genuinely divides opinion, turn it into a sharp question of your own, and then spend 1500 to 2000 words answering it: gathering perspectives, weighing evidence, citing every source, and reasoning your way to a course of action. It is worth 30 percent of your grade and it is marked by Cambridge, so it rewards real research skill, not opinion dressed up as argument.

This guide takes you from a blank page to a finished report. You will learn how to narrow a huge topic into an answerable title, how to find and present local, national and global perspectives, how to reference so the marker can see whose ideas are whose, and how to end with a conclusion that follows from your evidence. Best of all, you will see an annotated exemplar: a short extract from a strong report with margin notes showing exactly why it scores.

Ebumnobi

  1. Choose a global topic and devise a focused, answerable report title.
  2. Research the issue from different perspectives and support reasoning with cited evidence.
  3. Structure a 1500 to 2000 word report and reference sources correctly.
  4. Reach an evidence-based conclusion and reflect on possible courses of action.

Akọmọ Ojú-ẹkọ

Most students lose marks on the Individual Report before they write a single paragraph, because they choose a question that is too broad, too one-sided, or impossible to answer with evidence. Get the question right and the rest of the report almost writes itself; get it wrong and no amount of effort can rescue it. The report is also the clearest rehearsal for the kind of independent, evidence-based reasoning that universities and employers value, which is why it is worth taking seriously rather than treating as an essay to fill with everything you can find.
