Externally-set Assignment

Gbogbo ọrọ náà

Pearson releases one theme on 2 January and every Graphic Communication candidate in the world designs against it. What makes this component unlike any other exam you will sit is the room it ends in: ten supervised hours in which you may have a machine, may not have the internet, and must leave with artwork that is finished and output, not a file that would look great once you got home.

Everything a graphic designer normally leans on has to be assembled before the clock starts. The typefaces you will set in. The photographs you will place. The grid you will build on. The paper you will print on. This note is about designing a response that can be produced under those conditions, and about the preparatory studies that make the ten hours an act of production rather than a scramble.

Ebumnobi

  1. Present personal responses to an externally-set broad-based thematic starting point
  2. Complete preparatory studies in response to the externally-set theme
  3. Complete a 10-hour period of sustained focus under supervised conditions
  4. Submit three sheets of supporting studies (maximum A2) and one sheet of final outcome(s) (maximum A2)

Akọmọ Ojú-ẹkọ

The Externally-set Assignment is Component 2. It is worth 50 per cent and 72 marks, matching the Personal Portfolio, for 144 marks in total. Pearson sets one broad-based thematic starting point, developed through a set of suggested starting points on the paper, and it is released on 2 January each year. You must answer it in Graphic Communication, because your Component 2 endorsement has to match your Component 1 endorsement. All four assessment objectives are assessed here at 12.5 per cent each, exactly as in the portfolio, and your preparatory studies together with your final response must evidence all four.
