Personal Portfolio

Gbogbo ọrọ náà

Your Personal Portfolio is half of your Fine Art International GCSE, and it is the half you control completely. Nobody sets you a question. Your centre picks the theme, you pick the direction inside it, and then you have to prove across four A2 sheets that you can find sources worth using, push materials until they do something you did not expect, keep a record of your thinking while it is still hot, and land a finished piece that says what you meant it to say.

That freedom is exactly why portfolios go wrong. A folder can be full of pleasant drawings and still score in the lower bands, because pleasant is not the same as developed. This note takes you through what the four assessment objectives look like in charcoal, ink, print and paint, how to choose and edit a body of work down to the sheets you are allowed to submit, and how to photograph a sculpture or an oversized canvas so the examiner sees the work you actually made.

Ebumnobi

  1. Create a personal portfolio of work demonstrating knowledge, understanding and skills for Fine Art
  2. Develop and explore ideas in response to centre-devised themes, projects or tasks
  3. Research primary and contextual sources
  4. Experiment with media, materials, techniques and processes
  5. Present personal responses to themes set by the centre
  6. Submit three sheets of supporting studies (maximum A2) and one sheet of final outcome(s) (maximum A2)

Akọmọ Ojú-ẹkọ

Fine Art at International GCSE has no written exam. Component 1, the Personal Portfolio, is worth 50 per cent and carries 72 marks. It is set inside your own centre, on theme(s), project(s) or task(s) your teachers devise, and it is then marked externally by Pearson against a single assessment grid that is the same for every endorsed title and every candidate in the world. Component 2, the Externally-set Assignment, carries the other 72 marks, giving 144 marks in total. Whichever endorsement you take for Component 1 you must stay in for Component 2, so a Fine Art portfolio commits you to a Fine Art assignment.
