Formal Dialogue And Debate

Gbogbo ọrọ náà

The endorsement offers a second route, and it is the more interesting one. Instead of standing up alone and delivering a prepared talk, you take part in a formal debate or a dialogue such as an interview, with extended responses prepared in advance to prompts you have already seen, and then questions from the audience. It is still prepared. What is different is that somebody else is in the room with something to say.

That changes the skill entirely. A presentation is composed; an exchange is negotiated. This note covers how to prepare extended responses without sounding scripted, how to listen well enough to answer what was actually said, how rebuttal works, and how to stay formal and controlled when somebody has just told the room that you are wrong.

Akọmọ Ojú-ẹkọ

The specification allows the spoken language presentation to take a variety of forms, and names two. The first is a speech or talk by a student followed by questions from the audience. The second, which is the subject of this note, is a formal debate or dialogue, such as an interview where the student is able to prepare extended responses to questions or prompts that have been shared in advance, followed by questions from the audience.
