Paper 1: The Written Examination

Gbogbo ọrọ náà

Paper 1 is the one part of Global Perspectives you sit like a traditional exam, but it does not test what you have memorised. You walk in, open an insert full of sources about a global issue you may never have studied, and in one hour and twenty-five minutes you have to read them, weigh them, and answer four compulsory questions. There is no content to revise. What is being marked is how well you think: can you pull apart an argument, judge whether a piece of evidence can be trusted, and back a view with reasons rather than feelings?

This guide shows you exactly what the four questions ask for, how the marks are split, and the single habit that lifts a script from a pass to a top grade: evaluating instead of describing. You will see the command words decoded, a timing plan that leaves room to think, and a worked source question with a model answer so you can see what a high-scoring response actually looks like on the page.

Ebumnobi

  1. Understand the format of Paper 1 and the four compulsory source-based questions.
  2. Analyse and evaluate sources presenting an issue from different perspectives under exam conditions.
  3. Interpret command words and structure answers to match what the mark scheme rewards.

Akọmọ Ojú-ẹkọ

Paper 1 is worth 35 percent of your final grade, the same share as the Team Project and more than the Individual Report. It is also the only component you cannot rehearse with a finished answer, because you do not know which global issue will appear. That sounds frightening, but it is actually good news: the skills are the same every year, so once you can read sources critically and reason on paper, you can walk into any version of the exam. The students who struggle are the ones who try to write everything they know about the topic. The students who do well treat the sources as evidence to be questioned and the questions as invitations to judge.
