Achieving Sustainable Development

Sustainable development is the attempt to do both at once: to raise living standards today in a way that the environment and society can keep going tomorrow. It has become the organising idea of global efforts to close the development gap.
In this lesson you will learn what sustainable development means, the social, economic and environmental strategies used to achieve it, and the main ways richer countries and organisations try to reduce uneven development through trade, aid and debt relief. You will also study one named middle or low income country in detail and judge how well its strategies have worked.
