Ten minutes is longer than you think and shorter than you need. This note is about the prepared talk: choosing something that will survive being spoken about for that long, building a structure an audience can follow without notes, writing sentences that work in the ear rather than on the page, and delivering them in spoken Standard English to a room that is listening. The questions that come afterwards are a separate skill and have a note of their own.
