• Failure of moral and legal safeguards. The police and officials she might have trusted are themselves compromised, so there is no shelter for the vulnerable until ACP Yakubu intervenes late.

The measure of personal responsibility:

• Aloho ignores the honest counsel of her upright friend Ogeyi, who warns her against Ochuole's path.
• She yields to the desire for a comfortable life and consents to the Chief's exploitation and to carrying drugs, choices that finally destroy her.

Conclusion. Aloho is not wholly innocent; her weakness and ambition contribute to her downfall. Yet the playwright's title and design place the greater blame on the society that corrupts. She is a victim of unemployment, predatory power and moral decay far more than of her own flaws. To a large extent, therefore, her tragedy is society's harvest, and her death is the play's warning about a nation that devours its own young.

Conclusion. By cataloguing these defects, shortness, rough winds, excessive heat, clouded light and inevitable decline, Shakespeare shows that a summer's day is imperfect and passing. • Rejection of oppression. The persona refuses to accept the suffering imposed by those in power. His revolutionary stance is a protest against the wrongs that have turned his country into a place of death.
• Commitment despite danger. Aware of the risks of war and rebellion, the persona still chooses to take his stand, showing courage and determination. His resolve is not idle wishing but a considered readiness to act.
• Voice for the suffering people. In resolving to be a revolutionary, the persona speaks for the ordinary people crushed by the conflict, making his personal decision a collective cry for liberation.

How it is conveyed. Hallowell communicates this resolve through war imagery, the subverted symbol of the dining table, and a determined, defiant tone. The contrast between the table's peaceful associations and its violent reality sharpens the persona's call to action.

Conclusion. "The Dining Table" charts the persona's movement from suffering to defiance. His resolve to be a revolutionary expresses the poem's protest against war and oppression and its yearning for a just transformation of society.

• Honest and incorruptible. In a world where officials, ministers and even some lawmen are for sale, Yakubu refuses to be bought. His integrity marks him as a rare upright figure and the moral counterweight to men like Chief Haladu Ade-Amaka.
• Dedicated and diligent. Yakubu pursues the trail of corruption and crime with determination. He investigates the wrongdoing surrounding the Chief, gathers evidence, and ensures that the culprits are arrested and brought before the court.
• Courageous and firm. He is not intimidated by the wealth and political power of those he confronts. Knowing the influence of the corrupt elite, he still acts against them, showing bravery and a strong sense of duty.
• An instrument of the play's justice. It is largely through Yakubu's efforts that the machinery of law is set in motion, leading to the trial in which the corrupt are exposed and punished. He helps deliver the "harvest" that the title promises, the reaping of what the corrupt have sown.

• Source of guidance through the oracle. Important decisions in Mando are referred to the oracle at the shrine. The community believes the gods speak there, and this belief gives the shrine authority over public and private affairs.
• Seat of the priest's power. As custodian of the shrine, the soothsayer Maligu wields great influence. His control of the oracle allows him to interpret, and misinterpret, the will of the gods, making the shrine an instrument of power.
• A rite that can demand sacrifice. The culture attaches sacrifice to the shrine as a means of appeasing the gods. This custom is what makes the demand for "the blood of a stranger" appear legitimate to the people.
• A symbol open to manipulation. Precisely because the shrine commands such reverence, it becomes the very tool through which Maligu deceives the King and the people. The sacred institution is turned to a corrupt purpose, showing how a trusted custom can be exploited by the unscrupulous.

Conclusion. The shrine embodies the faith, unity and moral order of Mando Land, governing worship, decision-making and sacrifice. Yet Charley also uses it to make a larger point: a culture's holiest institution is only as trustworthy as those who serve it, and when the priesthood is corrupt, the shrine can become a means of ruin rather than of blessing.

Tony Lumpkin is the great engineer of mischief in She Stoops to Conquer, and the play's comic action, aptly subtitled "The Mistakes of a Night," is set in motion and resolved by his pranks. His role can be traced through three chief mistakes that he causes or exploits.

1. The mistaking of the Hardcastle house for an inn. At the Three Pigeons alehouse, Tony meets the travellers Marlow and Hastings, who are lost. For sport he directs them to his stepfather's house, telling them it is a public inn. This single mischievous lie produces the central comedy: Marlow treats the dignified Mr Hardcastle as a mere innkeeper and Kate as a barmaid, forcing Kate to "stoop" in order to "conquer" his bashfulness.
2. The theft of Constance's jewels. To help his cousin Constance Neville and her lover Hastings, and to free himself from his mother's plan to marry him to Constance, Tony steals Constance's jewels from Mrs Hardcastle's keeping and hands them to Hastings. 3. The horse-ride hoax around the garden. When the elopement is threatened, Tony drives his mother about in the dark, pretending they have travelled many miles to the dangerous Crackskull Common, when in truth he has merely circled the grounds and landed her in her own back garden by the horse-pond. This trick keeps Mrs Hardcastle helpless while matters are set right.

Conclusion. Through these mistakes Tony drives the whole comedy: he creates the misunderstanding that tests the lovers, aids Hastings and Constance, and outwits his controlling mother. • Kindo as the guardian of Mando's true interest. As the King's son and a leading warrior, Kindo represents the community's hope. Where the King is manipulated into endangering his people, Kindo stands for justice, courage and the protection of the innocent.
• The strain caused by the plot. When the King, deceived by Maligu, sanctions the sacrifice and the schemes that threaten those dear to Kindo, the trust between father and son collapses. Kindo can no longer support a ruler who has become the tool of corrupt men.
• The consequence: violence and upheaval. The rupture between Santigi and Kindo erupts into open conflict and bloodshed. The very confrontation between the misguided King and his rebellious son brings the crisis of Mando to its tragic head.

• Both are proud, principled and strong-willed women who refuse to be diminished.
• Both cherish their family and their racial dignity, rejecting Lindner's offer to keep the Youngers out of Clybourne Park.
• Both are dreamers who hold firmly to their visions despite hardship.

Conclusion. Mama and Beneatha differ sharply in faith, learning and worldview, yet they share courage, pride and love of family. Their contrast enriches the play, showing how one household can hold both the deep-rooted values of the past and the restless aspirations of a new generation.

At creation God pours His blessings on man from a glass, as from a container, but deliberately withholds the gift of "rest." The title itself supplies the governing conceit: like a pulley, man's restlessness is the mechanism that hoists him up to God. This far-fetched yet logically sustained image is the hallmark of the metaphysical conceit.
2. Wit and wordplay, especially the pun on "rest." Herbert plays on the double meaning of "rest": it signifies both peaceful repose and the "remainder" of God's blessings. God gives man strength, beauty, wisdom, honour and pleasure, but keeps back rest so that man, weary and restless, will turn to God rather than to nature. This clever punning wit is typical of metaphysical verse.
3. Argumentative, logical structure on a religious theme. The poem unfolds like a reasoned argument, moving from God's act of creation to His deliberate strategy and its intended effect on the human soul. The subject is spiritual, the relationship between God and restless humanity, and the poet fuses intellect with devotion, thinking his way through a religious truth rather than merely feeling it.

Additional feature. The poem also uses paradox: God's apparent unkindness in withholding rest is really His deepest kindness, since human restlessness drives the soul back to its Maker.

Conclusion. Through the sustained conceit of the pulley, the witty pun on "rest," and its tightly argued religious reasoning, "The Pulley" displays the essential qualities of metaphysical poetry: intellectual ingenuity harnessed to spiritual meaning.

Conclusion. The bond between Mama and Travis embodies love across three generations and the family's hope for a better tomorrow. In a play full of frustrated dreams, their affectionate relationship reminds us what the Youngers are ultimately striving for: a decent future for the child who represents their family's continuity and hope.

• He is gullible and easily deceived. Santigi surrenders his royal judgement to Maligu, the soothsayer. When Maligu fabricates an oracle demanding the blood of a stranger, the King accepts it without probing, allowing a private greed to be dressed up as the will of the gods. A wise ruler tests the counsel of his priests; Santigi merely obeys.
• He sanctions human sacrifice. By ordering that a stranger be killed to secure prosperity, the King places superstition above the sanctity of human life, endangering the innocent and staining the throne with blood.
• He is blind to the danger of the white stranger. Santigi does not perceive that Whitehead's interest in Mando's land is exploitative. His failure to protect the community's soil and wealth shows a ruler who cannot read the political currents around him.
