Education For All

Bayani Gaba-gaba

Education is the one investment that quietly shapes almost every other global issue. A girl who finishes secondary school is healthier, earns more, marries later and is far more likely to send her own children to school. Yet UNESCO reported in 2024 that around 251 million children and youth were out of school, a number revised upward to about 272 million in 2025 as population estimates were updated. Progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 4, the global promise of inclusive, quality education for all by 2030, has almost stalled.

In Global Perspectives you do not memorise these figures, you learn to think with them. This note shows you how to weigh personal, national and global perspectives on education, to test a striking statistic before you trust it, to argue both sides of real debates such as whether schooling should be free, and to reason your way toward courses of action you could actually defend in a report or a team project.

Manufura

  1. Explain why education for all is an issue of global significance and describe its main causes and consequences.
  2. Compare personal, local/national and global perspectives on education for all, with empathy and supporting evidence.
  3. Evaluate evidence, sources and arguments relating to education for all, distinguishing fact, opinion, bias and vested interest.
  4. Develop a line of reasoning toward possible evidence-based courses of action on education for all, and suggest report and team-project angles.

Takardar Darasi

Education for all means that every child, wherever they are born and whatever their gender, wealth or ability, can reach school and learn something worthwhile while there. It is global because it crosses every border and because the world has formally promised it: Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) commits all countries to inclusive, equitable, quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030. The promise is far from kept. UNESCO reported in 2024 that about 251 million children and youth were out of school, and an updated 2025 estimate put the figure near 272 million once revised population data were included. Since SDG4 was set in 2015, the number out of school has fallen by less than one per cent.
