God did not lead the Israelites by the way of the land of the Philistines although that was near because He did not want them to see war and return to Egypt. The Israelites had just left Egypt and were on their way to the Promised Land. The way of the land of the Philistines was the shorter route, but it was also the more dangerous route because of the presence of the Philistines who were known for their military might. God knew that if the Israelites encountered war at this early stage, they might lose heart and return to Egypt. Therefore, He led them by a longer route through the wilderness, where they could learn and grow stronger before facing the challenges ahead.

Elijah decreed that there would be neither rain nor dew for three years because Ahab had forsaken the commandment of God by erecting an altar for Baal. Elijah was a prophet of God and he had warned King Ahab that if he and the Israelites continued to worship Baal, a false god, instead of the true God of Israel, there would be consequences. The drought was a punishment for their disobedience, and it was meant to show the people that only God had the power to provide for their needs.

According to the Bible, he conscripted 30,000 men from Israel, and sent them to Lebanon in shifts of 10,000 a month to work on the temple and palace construction projects. This was a preparation for the meeting with God, and it was to symbolize their purification and readiness to meet with the Holy One. This was a way to show their reverence for God and their willingness to obey His commands.

David's victory over the Amalekites who raided Ziklag was due to his prayer in seeking the approval of God before pursuing them. After the Amalekites raided Ziklag and took all the women and children captive, David and his men were greatly distressed. However, David strengthened himself in the Lord and inquired of the Lord if he should pursue the raiders. God told David to pursue them, assuring him that he would recover all that was taken. David obeyed God's instructions, and they pursued the Amalekites. God fought for David and his men, and they were able to recover all that was taken and even captured more spoil from the Amalekites.
