No organism lives in isolation. Every living thing interacts with others around it and with its physical surroundings, forming a web of relationships that ecologists call an ecosystem. Understanding these connections - and being able to measure them in the field - is essential for conservation, agriculture and public health.
In this lesson you will learn the hierarchy from populations to ecosystems, practise the quadrat technique for estimating population size and distribution, and explore how abiotic and biotic factors shape the communities we observe in nature.

- Investigate the population size of an organism in two different areas using quadrats
- Understand the term biodiversity
- Investigate the distribution of organisms in their habitats and measure biodiversity using quadrats
